Heaton Mersey Park – why does it suffer in comparison with other urban parks in Stockport?

logo welove200The Heatons rank as one of the twelve most desirable areas in the Northwest in which to live. (From Sunday Times supplement 18 March 2017 “Best Places to Live in the UK”).  But our local park just does not match up to the rest of the area.  We can no longer leave it to the Council – nowadays regular maintenance must be done by local residents.
Good news!  The HMVCG volunteers had work days in the Park on Saturday 4 January 2020, and also on Saturday 4 February 2020.  Will they now be having regular work sessions?  – Time will tell.  So much to be done to restore the Park to what it was like some years ago!

Good news but you should keep in mind:
FACT:  Invasive Himalayan Balsam plants are spreading in the Park – check it out yourself this summer. There has been NO group removing Himalayan Balsam for the last three summers.
FACT:  So much more needs to be done – see links below (Some serious suggestions)

WHAT YOU CAN DO
:
1.  TAKE A WALK AROUND THE PARK – JUDGE FOR YOURSELF.
For years I often took walks there after work for exercise & enjoyment. No  longer  – it is so sad and neglected. What is your opinion?
2.  CONTACT YOUR COUNSELLOR.
Voice your concerns to your representative on Stockport Council – the more of us who do this, the more likely the Council will take note.  See link below.
3.
SEND AN EMAIL TO THE HEATONS POST
The Heatons Post, our new local newspaper, will publish its first issue in February 2010.  news@heatonspost.co.uk
